ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) on Thursday said that it has developed an online voting system for overseas Pakistanis.
During a case hearing over the matter, NADRA Chairman Usman Mubeen briefed the Supreme Court (SC) that a system to allow overseas Pakistanis to cast vote during the general elections 2018 has been developed.
The NADRA chief said that vote-casting software will be available at the official website of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in both Urdu and English language.
It was added that only those who answer the specified questions will be allowed to cast the vote and that a password will be provided to each voter which could only be used to cast a single vote.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar inquired if the overseas Pakistanis had the right to cast votes. To this end, the attorney general responded in affirmative, adding that “overseas Pakistan do have the right to vote and only a proper mechanism is required.”
