ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has on Thursday said that Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi can ask for explanations from the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Nisar over his remarks regarding the meeting between the two.

Speaking to the media outside the accountability court, Nawaz said that he is not ‘surprised’ by CJP’s remarks that PM Abbasi ‘came with requests’ to meet him. He added that the premier has the authority to ask for explanations.

He added that no ‘respectable judge’ should utter such remarks and that no PM would feel ‘pleased’ to hear such remarks against them.

While hearing the Murree constructions suo moto case earlier today, CJP told counsel Latif Khosa that the meeting between himself and PM Abbasi was fruitful for the judiciary. “We gained a lot from the meeting and lost nothing. The pleaders came with their requests but got nothing,” CJP added.

Continuing his speech, Nawaz said that in the country’s 70-year-old history, no PM has been able to complete their tenure. ‘Why is that no PM in Pakistan completes their tenure?’ he questioned.

Speaking about the Avenfield case, Nawaz said that Panama JIT head Wajid Zia’s statements before the court have provided the Sharif family the ‘clean chit’.
