Five dead, 10 injured in road mishap

KARACHI: At least five people died and ten others, including women and children, were wounded in a road mishap that took place in the outskirts of the city.

The casualties took place after the passenger bus and a truck collided each other near Northern Bypass within the limits of Manghopir police station late on Monday night. Ambulances from the different welfare associations also reached the site following the accident and shifted the bodies and the injured to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment and autopsies.

Extra contingent of the law enforcers also reached the site and participated in the rescue work. Manghopir SHO Haji Sanaullah said that the three victims had been died while the remaining two others succumbed to their injuries during treatment at hospital. Police officials said that the coach driver was among the dead while the truck driver allegedly responsible for the accident was managed to escape from the scene.

SHO Sanaullah said that the case has been registered while the police was looking for the fleeing truck driver and a cleaner, adding that the actual reason behind the accident has also yet to be ascertained but according to initial investigations, this was the head to head collision.

Deceased persons included Ameer Shah, coach driver, Azeem Aziz, Haq Nawaz and the two unidentified persons, while the injured persons included Amna Bibi, Peera, Rizwana, Nazia and Shah Nawaz.

Police officials said that the accident took place between the Larkana bound passenger coach – Geo Pak and the Mazda truck, adding that both the vehicles in speed and collided each other. SHO Sanaullah said that the victims were the residents of Larkana who were on their way to Larkana from Karachi while the truck was on its way to Hub when the accident took place. The case has been registered and further investigation was underway.
