Author: Saira Agha

Minor girl Zainab who was seven years of age, was discovered lifeless in a garbage pile on Tuesday, five days after she was kidnapped from Kasur.

The initial post-mortem report revealed that she had been raped multiple times and strangled to death.

Within no time, Zainab’s smiling picture in a pink jacket began circulating on social media during late hours of Tuesday along with another picture that showed her lying motionless and lifeless in a pile of trash.

Social networking sites Facebook, Instagram and Twitter went ablaze with everyone sharing, posting and Retweeting pictures, updates and condolences on the little girl’s brutal murder.

Indeed, Zainab’s cold blooded murder has shaken the country to its core and requires urgent and stringent action in finding the killers. Zainab’s parents were reportedly, on Umrah, when this horrific act happened.

Camera footage discovered later, showed a bearded middle-aged man, holding Zainab’s hand and leading her across the road.

Prominent media personalities, celebrities from showbiz, sports, media and all over the world, expressed their horror, shock and disgust on Twitter. All seem to question the government’s lack of action, no interest and lax policies in protecting the country’s children against brutalities.

Most celebrities were seen urging the government to take immediate action and not wait for another tragedy to happen in the country.

Some of them were

@CMShehbaz

Deeply pained about murder of a 8-year old girl in a child molestation case. Those societies that cannot protect its children are eternally condemned. Not going to rest till the perpetrators of this dastardly act are apprehended & given severest possible punishment under the law

@BBhuttoZardari

The horrific crime perpetrated in Kasur is devastating. Pakistan needs to reevaluate how it deals with such crimes, especially those against children. My prayers and heartfelt sympathies with the family. We must all stand with victims of abuse.

@aClockworkObi

How does one even begin to process this. The eleventh case of abduction, rape and murder of a child in Kasur. In just this last year. In the district responsible for the largest child abuse scandal in Pakistan’s history. My God, Zainab. Our collective apathy failed you.

@SAfridiOfficial

Shocked, Disgusted and feeling sick to the core! What a shameful day for us, Zainab’s killers must not only be hanged, they should be given such exemplary punishment that people should remember the lessson for ever. Pakistan rulers we’re waiting for action!

@iamhamzaabbasi

#JusticeForZainab There have been 11 Zainabs in Kasur last year, we forgot about them after a brief outrage! Now, will we force Police, Govts & Courts to act on the 12th Zainab or forget about this too after a few days & wait for a 13th Zainab to make us angry again?

@ImranKhanPTI

The condemnable & horrific rape & murder of little Zainab exposes once again how vulnerable our children are in our society. This is not the first time such horrific acts have happened. We have to act swiftly to punish the guilty & ensure that our children are better protected.

@Za1d

I pray to Allah that justice is brought upon the case of Zainab. For the first time, I am compeletely speechless. #JusticeForZainab

@faizanlakhani

From Sumbul to Zainab, we expressed anger at every incident. Our anger won’t change anything if we aren’t willing to change as a society. These cases are directly linked with upbringing and social behaviour, change them! #JusticeForZainab

@TahirulQadri

Just attended the janaza of the innocent child zainab in Kasur. I have no word to describe this barbarity and the scene was heart wrenching. May Allah Almighty save Pakistan from these rulers. #JusticeForZainab

The curse of child sexual abuse MUST be wiped from our society.

Please rise above party politics to put an end to it.

Let’s show unity for the sake of our children. #Zainab

@najamsethi

#JusticeForZainab If CM SS cant string up the monsters who violated Zainab, CJ LHC must provide swift justice.

@wasimakramlive
