ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday summoned the Interior Ministry secretary over the alleged kidnapping of former adviser to Sindh CM, Nawab Laghari.

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of IHC heard a petition filed by Laghari’s wife, seeking the recovery of her husband. The bench directed the Interior secretary to submit the ministry’s reply at the next hearing of the case.

The bench observed that billions of rupees were being spent on the Safe City Project, but it could not help find the registration number of the vehicle used to kidnap Laghari.

“If the situation continues to be the same, then there is no need of for the IGP, the SSP or the Interior secretary,” Justice Kayani said.

He directed the Islamabad SSP to appear before the bench and inform it who was responsible for the incident.

The court directed the authorities to present Laghari within a week before the court. “The Safe City Project will be closed on failure,” he said. The court then adjourned the hearing until May 8.

In her plea, the petitioner has stated that the federal police had not taken sufficient measures to recover her husband.

Nawab Ali Laghari was abducted in the first week of April from the Loherbher police precincts. Police have registered a kidnapping case against unidentified people after a complaint was lodged by the victim’s brother, Ramzan Laghari.

Ramzan said a group of men had come to the victim’s house in Soan Garden and introduced themselves as members various law enforcement agencies. He said that some of them were also wearing uniforms of the Punjab Police.

“The men asked my brother to show them his identification documents, including his CNIC. Later, he was forced into one of the cars when he came out with his papers. The men had come in four cars, including two black Vigo vehicles and two white Prado Land Cruisers, all of which had green license plates,” he claimed.
