Saleem Ahmed’s mercy petition by virtue of Article 45 of the Constitution read with Rule 104 of Pakistan Prisons Rule 1978 was submitted to the President of Pakistan and the same was acknowledged and after preliminary scrutiny sent it to the Ministry of Interior for further necessary actions. The staff of Kot Lakhpat jail outrightly refused to allow me for meeting my client-Ahmed Saleem who has been languishing in jail since 2001. Ahmed was booked into case FIR which was chalked out in 2001 for alleged murdering his sister. His clemency plea was acknowledged by the President on humanitarian grounds on 15/11/2017. He was set to be hanged on 19/10/2017 but because of my intervention his clemency plea was drafted and sent to the President for mercy.
The staff of the jail were reluctant to allow to me to meeting my client being a professional litigation lawyer. This sort of practices and culture shall be stopped across Pakistan.
