Sir: There are various reports that warn Pakistan will be one of the countries most affected by climate change in the future. The leadership of this country needs to take these warnings seriously. Climate change will wreak havoc on our environment, economy and security. It will create a large number of ‘environment change refugees’ from the southernmost parts of the country.
Unfortunately our government seems to be completely unaware of this. The PML-N seems to be intent on using coal power, which will drive up air pollution and greenhouse gases emissions. Personally, I fail to understand the logic of using outdated coal power that too coal power which will be run on imported coal, when there are many more modern and cleaner options available which also produce energy more efficiently.
Lastly, the people must be made aware of the consequences of global warming on Pakistan so that they can adjust their consumption patterns according to the need of the hour. The threat from global warming is the greatest threat this nation will ever face. It must be taken seriously.
