The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has decided to take strong action against individuals spreading hatred and inciting violence in the Kurram district, labelling them as terrorists. The decision was made during a provincial cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Monday, where the government’s strategy for addressing the Kurram issue was discussed. The briefing revealed that over 133 lives have been lost, and 177 individuals have been injured in various incidents in Kurram. To restore peace, a grand jirga has been formed, which will remain in the area until complete peace is established. According to the briefing, some elements are exacerbating the situation by spreading hatred between the warring factions. These individuals will be identified, designated as terrorists, and faced with stringent legal action, including being placed on the Fourth Schedule list. The meeting also discussed the deployment of the Frontier Constabulary in the region and the allocation of compensation to the victims of the violence. Furthermore, steps will be taken to facilitate the return of displaced families to the district. CM Gandapur emphasised that the conflict in Kurram was not terrorism but was being fueled by elements sowing hatred between two communities. He called on local leaders to assist in identifying these troublemakers. “These elements are terrorists, and they will be treated as such,” he asserted. He also stressed the importance of a ceasefire for lasting peace and announced that essential medicines would be airlifted to the region to address shortages.
