LAHORE: A full bench of the Lahore High Court on Thursday extended the stay until October 27 of giving exemption to former inspector general Mushtaq Sukhera from appearing before the anti-terrorism court (ATC) trying accused in the Model Town tragedy case.
ATC judge Muhammad Azam had summoned 127 persons, including the IG, DIG (operations), former Lahore DCO and others. The judge had ordered the accused persons to appear in person and deposit surety bonds of Rs 500,000 each.
The counsel for petitioner Mushtaq Sukhera submitted that on private complaint of the PAT, the ATC had issued the summons. He alleged that the summonses were issued on baseless information provided to the trial court, as the petitioner was not holding the office of the IG when the incident happened.
He had submitted that the petitioner had nothing to do with that incident.
