Moving tribute paid to designer and style icon Nickie Nazir on closing day of BCW 2023

The concluding day of Pantene Hum Bridal Couture Week 2023 was held on Sunday at a local hotel. With brilliant public relations carried out by Amber Liaqat of Aura PR, the event was a true success as the who’s who from fashion and media showed up in large numbers to support the fashion week. A total of eight designers showcased their bridal collections including a Pantene Hair Show. Here’s our roundup of the third day showcases.

PANTENE HAIR SHOW

Opening Day 3 was a fun hair show by Pantene with outfits by Umaima Mustafa. Clad in white, the models strutted he ramp in all kinds of hairstyles; beachy waves, tight curls, outward and inward blowdries and iron straight. It was a refreshing opening act. After all, a good hair day never disappoints.

HUMAYUN ALAMGIR

This designer’s collection is always wearable, modern and very sellable. The sherwanis with their qullahs are always on point with their style and fittings. We loved what showstopper Nazish Jahangir was wearing – it was a green lehnga choli that stood out for its unique colour. His collection was titled Safar-e-Ishq.

NICKIE NINA

Since designer and style icon Nickie Nazir’s passing, this was the first time the brand showcased aptly titling their collection after Nickie. Actress Nadia Jamil came on stage to say a few heartfelt and moving words about Nickie Nazir and what she meant to her. The showcase was beautiful with saris, lehnga cholis, velvet shawls, knee-length shirts with loose pants and angrakhas. Supermodel Fouzia Amana and former supermodel Vaneeza Ahmed showstopped for Nickie Nina.

ALI XEESHAN

The first bridal collection showcase was by Ali Xeeshan. Staying true to his signature style, the lehnga and cholis were exquisitely and intricately done with signature Ali Xeeshan embroideries on voluminous lehngas in all colours. We especially liked the candy pink lehnga choli and the showstopper outfit worn by actress Ushna Shah.

MUSFERAH SAAD

This came across as a brand inspired a great deal from the legendary brand Meeras by Nilofer Shahid with the same cuts, drapes and colour patterns involved. The showstopper dress worn by actress Sarah Khan had the exact same neckline as Nilofer Shahid makes but overall a good effort.

MUNIB NAWAZ

Munib was very experimental with his sherwanis and coats. We particularly liked the green and brown coat dress for women with high collars and side cuts. However, heavily embroidered suits and sherwanis for men could come across as too busy and weighty to wear. Singer Gohar Mumtaz and actress Kubra Khan showstopped for the designer.

ANEEKA RUKNUDDINNot having heard her name before, we did not have much high hopes from this designer’s collection, but we were in for a pleasant surprise. Each and every outfit stood out for its embroidery, cuts and the hardwork put behind it. It was hand work done on every outfit instead of machine work and it showed. The designer could’ve cut costs and saved time and money by applying machine work to the outfits but she ensured that her participation in BCW showed be worth it. Her outfits depicted old school wedding fashion and regality and elegance. The pink and white sari is a must-addition to our wardrobes. The orange embellished top with straight white silk pants looked beautiful and effortlessly chic. The handmade purses added a glamorous touch to the collection. We can go on and on about how much we loved each and every piece. Actress Ayesha Omar showstopped for the brand.

SOUCHAJ

‘Runak Jhunak’ by Souchaj by Mehak Junaid was a collection that blended vibrant colours with traditional hand work, showcasing meticulous details using gota, mukesh, resham and nakshi. It was a beautiful collection with some outfits really making a statement for example the showstopper dress worn by actress
Sabina Farooq.

HSY

We loved the esteemed designer’s collection that featured pastel coloured lehngs cholis, his signature sherwani coats, drape shawls for men, straight kurtas for men, belted sari pants for women, U-shaped neckline gowns for women and Anarkali dresses. Showstoppers Mehwish Hayat and Reema Khan looked exquisite in grey embroidered gowns.
