Sir: The incidence of cheating seen in the Matriculation examination in Sindh is enough to lower our heads in shame. We have comfortably laid the entire blame on the state. We argue that when leaders sitting on the helm could cheat and indulge in bad practices, ordinary folk are left with little sense to follow morality. My question is, are we not responsible for our individual acts? Is it not the responsibility of parents to inculcate in their children values that would serve them well throughout their lives? If the state is not doing its part of the job, it does not mean that parents should stop carrying out their duties. Unfortunately, our society has misconstrued the word smart. We have convinced ourselves that to be smart is to be good at swindling others. The fact of the matter is that corruption has seeped into our system, to a level that we have lost the ability to differentiate between good and bad. There is a dire need of moral revival more than a political one in these times.
