Karachi transport

Author: Daily Times

Sir: A recent news channel report on public transport said the Karachi CNG bus project that started with 75 buses now has only 25 vehicles on the roads. This project was initiated by City Nazim Mustafa Kamal.

This report failed to mention the 60 CNG buses put into service by Mr Kamal’s predecessor, Naimatullah Khan. This project comprised 32 buses of the Sweden Bus Company and 28 buses of the Green Bus Company, almost all of which are not operating now. Thus the investment in the project has gone to waste.
This is a serious issue that needs attention since a majority of Karachi’s population depends wholly on public transport, and the public needs more buses.
