CTD arrests another suspect in gun attack case on Imran Khan

The CTD police arrested another suspect at a mobile market in Wazirabad on Monday in the case of the gun attack on the former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan during his long march.

The CCTV footage of the suspect being arrested also came to light.

Ahsan is the name of the young man who was taken into custody. He is from the town of Sohdra in Wazirabad.

According to CTD sources, police have arrested five people, including the primary suspect Naveed, and investigations are ongoing.

On Thursday, during the party’s long march, a gunman opened fire on Imran Khan’s container near Allahwala Chowk, Wazirabad, slightly injuring the former prime minister in the leg and murdering one of his fans. Nine additional people were also injured.

The shooter was apprehended instantly, and authorities later published a video of him in detention, purportedly confessing to the shooting and claiming he acted alone.

Imran Khan, 70, underwent surgery at Shaukat Khanum Hospital in Lahore and was discharged yesterday evening with the recommendation that he rest for two weeks.

During a press conference from the hospital on Sunday, the PTI chief announced that his long march will resume on Tuesday (tomorrow) from the same location where it was halted and that Shah Mehmood Qureshi would lead the march.

Imran Khan attack: Suspect makes new claims in second video

Another video of the alleged attacker was released despite the suspension of the police station staff for releasing a confessional statement of the suspect on yesterday.

In the second video released by the Punjab police, the accused Naveed made fabricated allegations to justify his attack on former prime minister Imran Khan.

There are contradictions in both the police-released footage and the accused’s confessional remarks.

In a first video statement, the attacker said he was planning the assassination attempt ever since Imran left Lahore. “I tried my best to kill him. I wanted to kill Imran Khan only and no one else,” he added.

It should be mentioned that all of the police station’s workers had been suspended by Punjab CM Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi after a leaked video message of the attacker.
