KARACHI: As a campaign to promote technology in Pakistan, the government is helping the IT sector to grow by promoting basic services like free Wi-Fi services.
Karachi’s Benazir Bhutto Park is likely to get filled with hundreds of thousands of people as the Sindh government is planning to make it a ‘free Wi-Fi’ zone for visitors.
The Sindh government has allocated Rs 50 million in its 2017-18 budget to install free Wi-Fi at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Park in Clifton, Karachi.
Special Assistant to Chief Minister Sindh for Information Science and Technology Sikandar Shoro told this to a delegation which has visited his office that service would be available soon and this is the first part of the phase to provide the latest technology free of charge to Karachities which will be provided other parts of Karachi as well as across Sindh very soon.
“The government is taking measures to overhaul the IT sector to bring it up to the modern level as other developed countries are”, he added
Moreover, he said that Rs 40.51 million has been allocated for setting up research in public university in Jamshooro an effort to facilitate students to promote the research culture in students.
Before this the Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) had also introduced first free WiFi villages (Tharyo Halepoto and Senhri Dars) Tharparkar in March 2017.
