Removal of illegal cattle markets ordered

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal has directed all the divisional commissioners to take action against illegal cattle markets and get them removed immediately.

He was presiding over a meeting on illegal cattle markets in the province at Civil Secretariat on Sunday. The chief secretary also reviewed progress on the establishment of cattle market management companies at the divisional level. Addressing the meeting, he said that the establishment of cattle market management companies would help improve the livestock sector and directly benefit the livestock farmers. The chief secretary directed that the recruitment process for cattle market management companies be completed at the earliest so that they could start working. Commissioner Abdullah Sumbal informed the meeting that a cattle market management company has started working in Lahore Division.

The local government department briefed the meeting about the cattle market management companies. It was told that nine new cattle markets would be set up, while Lahore, Multan, Layyah, Jhang and Gujranwala would have model cattle markets.
