PTI leading with 367 seats in LG elections

PESHAWAR/ABBOTTABAD: In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the PTI is leading local government (LG) elections with 367 seats.

According to unofficial results, the independent candidates have obtained 222 seats, JUI-F 186, Jamaat-e-Islami 150, ANP 111, PML-N 104, PPP 60 and Qaumi Wattan Party 20 seats.

Security in the provincial capital Peshawar has been put on red alert to deal with any untoward situation in reaction of the LG election occurrences and police have arrested 47 people besides seizing arms from them. Authorities said that police have been deployed at residences of the candidates wining the LB election in the wake of possible attacks by the opponents or miscreants to create anarchy. Police officials said that the decision was taken to tackle with protests planned by the candidates and their supporters who failed to gain success in LB election.

Heavy contingent of police and FC has been deployed in various area of Peshawar including GT Road, Jamrud Road, Charsadda Road and suburbs of the city. The police during separate actions have arrested 47 people allegedly involved in violence during and after LB election in various areas of district and recovered six Kalashnikov rifles, two repeaters and hundreds of rounds from them.

Unofficial results in Abbottabad showed the victory of PML-N candidates on the seats of district and tehsil councils. According to the unofficial results of 16 Union councils of district Abbottabad the PML-N is ahead of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and won most of the seats.

PML-N candidate of district council from UC Sair Gharbi, Tahid Javed Abbassi secured 2322 votes and his opponent independent candidate Fazale Hadi got 2314 votes. In the same UC PML-N candidate for Tehsil Council Waheed Abbassi secured 1390 votes and his opponent JI candidate Amjad Abbassi 1018 votes.

PML-N candidate of district council from UC Gorini, Mazhar Abbassi secured 5800 votes and won the contest his opponent PTI candidate Jamal Abbassi got 2600 votes.
