MIRPUR – At least 14 persons died and a dozen others injured in various incidents due to recent flash floods in various parts of Azad Jammu Kashmir, official sources said on Monday.
As many as 25 houses were damaged completely and 78 partially following the heavy rainfall and floods in the seasonal nullahs, the officials said. Most of the casualties in the recent calamity were reported from Bhimber district, whereas six persons of a family in a car were drowned during an abortive attempt to cross a flooded seasonal nullah near Kasgumma.
Two other persons were swept away in a flooded nullah at remote village of Badhote Knaiker in outskirts of Muzaffarabad district. On the other hand, about six people were killed in similar house collapse and during attempt of crossing flooded nullahs in other far-flung areas in the mountainous district.
The state government has established flood control rooms in all ten districts to deal with any eventuality due to impending catastrophe during the ongoing monsoon season.
