Sir: According to news reports, Nigeria has completed one year with no new polio cases. Nigeria, along with Pakistan and Afghanistan, was a country listed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as being unable to eliminate polio. Fortunately, Nigeria, after making many efforts and after facing several attacks on polio workers by Boko Haram has succeeded in making itself polio-free.
Sadly, Pakistan has still failed to eradicate this crippling disease. It is high time the government took some serious steps to bring it to an end as polio causes lifetime disability and innocent children become stigmatised for life.
