Training camps set up for SAF Games

LAHORE – The Pakistan Sports Board on Tuesday said that as many as a dozen of training camps in various disciplines had been established for preparing the national athletes to take part in the South Asian Games, which are scheduled to begin from January 10, 2016 in Guwahati and Shillong, India.

”We received a letter from the Pakistan Olympic Association on July 13 regarding participation of Pak contingent in the SAF Games and we issued a letter on July 14 to the concerned national federations to set up the camps and intimate the date of the commencement, venues and strength of the camp trainees along with names of the camp trainees,” the board said in a statement.

It said that seven camps had started functioning in wrestling, wushu, athletics, weightlifting, handball, taekwondo and table tennis at the Pakistan Sports Board complex in Islamabad. ”Boxing camp is in progress at Karachi, while cycling, karate and ju-jitsu camps have been established at the Pakistan Sports Board coaching centre in Lahore with judo camp in Peshawar,” it added.

The statement read that the three remaining camps, including badminton, Kabaddi and Squash, would start functioning soon.
