ISLAMABAD: A week-long exhibition to promote Pakistani artists and traditional crafts by Seren Arts in connection with Independence Day celebrations concluded on Tuesday.

The exhibition titled Bazaar Court featured painted bowls, trays, urns and plates with the traditional classic truck art images as well as popular couplets in Punjabi and Urdu by talented craftsmen Farid Ahmad and Abid Hussain.

Master craftsman Muhammad Waseem and his wife Ayesha, who have been working on their age old family craft of detailed engravings on lacquered wood also contributed to this Bazaar Court with their artworks including beautiful tables, plates, lamps, mirrors etc.

Wassem told reporters, even though a bowl may look simple but it requires many hours. “We do not paint the design, we paint the bowl and then engrave the design on it, which requires effort, time, hard work and immense persistence.”

According to the organiser of the Seren Arts and Satrang Gallery Director Asma Rashid, they celebrated Pakistan’s artisans to add the festivity of Independence Day and giving these artisans a platform of Seren Arts to help, promote and sell their artworks.

The uniqueness of this exhibition was the featured artists working live on the products and producing customized items on request, so watching these artisans working live had been very interesting experience for visitors and art lovers, she added.
