Police arrest 127 ‘criminals’, three killed in encounters

KARACHI: South Zone police on Monday claimed to have arrested 127 suspects, while three others were killed in seven encounters in different parts of the metropolis.

According to details, South Zone police conducted raids on criminals during which 127 suspects were arrested in the last three days. Three criminals were killed and seven others arrested in injured condition in seven police encounters. A culprit wanted in a murder case and 29 alleged dacoits, street criminals and motorcycle lifters were arrested. However, 75 other suspects were also nabbed.

Thirteen absconders, four drug sellers were also detained in separate raids.

Three hand grenades, five Kalashnikov rifles, 30 pistols, 37 magazines, dozens of cartages, seven shotguns, nine rifles, five snatched motorcycles, big quantity of drugs, stolen property, gutka, stake money and sources of gambling were recovered from them.

Meanwhile, Sindh Rangers on Monday produced three suspects before an anti-terrorism court (ATC) and informed it about their 90-day preventive detention for questioning.

The personnel of Sindh Rangers, along with their counsel, produced Naeem, Abdul Qadir, and Mubarak Ali alias Langra before the court amid tight security. According to the Rangers, the suspects were involved in offenses that come within the ambit of the anti-terrorism act.

The suspects were arrested from Baldia Town.The court allowed the paramilitary force to detain the suspects for 90 days for interrogation, considering legal provisions under Section 11EEEE (1) of the ATA. The paramilitary force has the authority to detain suspects for the period of three moths for questioning under Section 11EEEE (1) of the ATA.

The production of the suspects with relevant documents was made in compliance with Section 11EEEE (3) of the ATA for the information and record of the court. Separately, an accused allegedly involved in possession of explosive material fled from the premises of an anti-terrorism court on Monday. Accused Tanveer alias Jambo was brought from Central Jail Karachi before the ATC-IX for hearing of his case. However, he fled from the scene after dodging the police officials.Policemen, including Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Riazuddin and constable Zahid, were arrested for their negligence.The accused was arrested from Ibrahim Hyderi in 2014 and police had recovered explosives from him.
