ECP denotifies Ayaz Sadiq as MNA

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday announced that Ayaz Sadiq was no more a lawmaker.The ECP had received the election tribunal’s verdict regarding NA-122 Lahore from where the former National Assembly (NA) speaker had been elected.

Meanwhile, the former speaker’s lawyers have completed their appeal to move the Supreme Court. The appeal read that none of the allegations were proven and there is no witness to the rigging. According to the appeal, the witnesses presented before the tribunal had no link with the NA-122 constituency.The election tribunal on Saturday declared election in NA-122 nullified and ordered re-polling in the constituency.
Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javaid Abbasi has started working as the acting speaker. Abbasi has shortened his Norway visit and returned to Islamabad. The election tribunal has ordered to hold by-polls in NA-122, however date of re-election has not been announced yet.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has decided to field Chaudhry Sarwar from the NA-122 constituency, while the PML-N has not yet confirmed a candidate.On the other hand, a petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking order to recover benefits and perks received by former speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq and former MPA Mohsin Latif. Petitioner Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi has filed the application under Article 184 (3) of the constitution.
