ALMATY – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif – who is on an official visit to Kazakhstan – has said that Pakistan is interested in signing a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).
“Pakistan wants to sign a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union. This will promote fruitful cooperation between Pakistan’s business community and the union,” he said in an interview with the Kazakh Express. Nawaz said that Kazakhstan can be a very helpful in maintaining the free trade agreement, since being an active member of the association.
The Eurasian Economic Union – comprising Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia – is an international organisation to streamline the flow of goods and services between its member countries. More than 40 countries and international organisations, including China, Thailand, Indonesia and Cambodia, have expressed interest in creating a free trade area with the union, according to Russian Economic Development Minister Alexey Ulyukaev.
