CDA chief wants capital’s blemishes brushed away

ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Maroof Afzal has started inspecting different sectors in connection with the authority’s campaign to ensure quality services to the residents of the capital.

During the first phase of inspection, the Capital Development Authority chairman visited the markets, parks, avenues and green belts of sector G6, F6 and F7. Member Administration and Estate Amer Ali Ahmed, Member Engineering Shahid Sohail, senior officers of the environment and other relevant formations accompanied him during the visit.Afzal has directed the Capital Development Authority Environment Wing to remove shrubs and bushes from the green belts, median strips, roundabouts and intersections of the capital and beautify them.

While inspecting general cleanliness in the sectors, the Capital Development Authority chairman directed the Civic Management wing of the authority to ensure proper collection and disposal of garbage and other waste on daily basis and carry out repair, maintenance and painting of dustbins, garbage trolleys and upgrade public toilets.

He directed the Engineering Wing of the authority to ensure early repair and maintenance of roads and footpaths, sewerage and drainage lines and replace missing manhole covers. Afzal directed the Member Engineering to ensure uninterrupted supply of water, maintenance of water supply pipelines and water filtration plants.

The Capital Development Authority chairman also directed removal of illegal khokhas, kabaar khanas and all encroachments which, he said, are defacing the natural beauty of the capital. Afzal said that the sector-wise renovation, up-gradation and beautification campaign 2015 will not only resolve the issues of the general public at their doorsteps but will also help create awareness and bring an attitudinal change amongst the citizens and stakeholders. He said that during the campaign, nominated officers of relevant formations and their staff will remain stationed in the designated sectors to execute the tasks assigned in an effective and efficient manner.

The Capital Development Authority head also visited the under-construction parking plazas in Jinnah Super Market, Markaz F7. He was apprised that construction work on the parking plaza located on northern side has been completed and is in the finishing phase, while the shuttering work up to ground level on southern side parking plaza has been executed and the parking plaza will be completed soon.Afzal directed the Member Engineering to expedite the residual finishing work on the northern side of the parking plaza so that it could be opened for the general public within a week. He called for expediting construction work on the southern side parking plaza.
