PM to meet US president on Oct 22

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will meet US President Barack Obama on October 22, a private news channel reported on Saturday.

According to the report, the meeting would take place at the White House. The prime minister is also scheduled to attend the UN General Assembly session during his official visit to the United States. Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz will accompany the prime minister, the report added.

It is pertinent to mention here that Nawaz Sharif is expected to meet his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi at the UN General Assembly session. Sartaj Aziz had said that if given the opportunity, he would share the dossier carrying India’s involvement in Pakistan with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval at the General Assembly session.

The development comes in the wake of cancellation of national adviser-level talks by India. Pakistan said it would invite Hurriyat leaders to participate in the NSA talks in order to discuss the Kashmir issue. But Indian officials said that Pakistan was avoiding the “key issue of terrorism”, which Nawaz Sharif and Narendra Modi agreed to discuss during their interaction at the Ufa summit.
