CDA’s encroachment drive turns into targeted operation in G-8

Author: Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: An ongoing drive against encroachments in the capital city has turned into a targeted operation, as the CDA Enforcement Directorate destroyed a security fence, cameras and cabin installed outside the office of a media house in Sector G-8. It is essential to mention here that the enforcement directorate did not even bother to touch similar encroachments in adjacent car showrooms, which are otherwise also illegally operating in the area. The management of English daily Pakistan Observer had directed by the Interior Ministry in March 2015 and then subsequently reminded in July 2015 to make suitable security arrangements in front of its premises to avoid any untoward incident, keeping in view the ongoing wave of terrorist attacks on media houses across the country. In response to threats conveyed by law enforcement agencies, the management of Pakistan Observer had erected security fence, installed cameras and constructed a cabin outside its office, purely for security purposes. However, all of a sudden, the CDA staff members reached the office of Pakistan Observer and started their ‘operation’ in the mid of the day – destroying cameras and security cabin and removing the security fence. When demanded by the management, the CDA officials present on spot failed to produce any notice or warning, which is usually issued a week or at least 48 hours prior to such an operation.
