ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to follow case proceedings of the NA-122 case in the Supreme Court following a plea filed by Sardar Ayaz Sadiq challenging the verdict of the election tribunal, which unseated the former National Assembly speaker from Lahore’s NA-122 constituency.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan has asked Hamid Khan to follow case proceedings in this regard, following which Hamid Khan has submitted a formal application before the SC, asking permission to become a litigant in the case. Giving details in this regard, PTI Central Information Secretary Naeemul Haq said his party had decided to contest the case in the Supreme Court. Earlier, former NA speaker Ayaz Sadiq had challenged in the apex court the decision of an election tribunal that had ordered re-election in his constituency (NA-122).
In an appeal filed at the Lahore registry of the SC through advocates Khwaja Saeeduz Zafar and Shahid Hamid, the deseated MNA asked the court to set aside the election tribunal’s order for being against facts and law. Sadiq did not seek stay order as per the party policy, which had decided to contest the re-poll. The tribunal had on August 22 annulled the result of NA-122 allowing a petition of PTI chief Imran Khan and ordered Election Commission of Pakistan to hold by-election in the constituency.
