Preparations for Eidul Azha : Keep capital clean, CDA chief directs officials

ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Maroof Afzal has directed all the formations of the authority to make all-out efforts for provision of quality services and collection and disposal of entrails, offals and waste material of sacrificial animals in the capital during the Eidul Azha.

The chairman said that no laxity will be tolerated in this regard. He directed all formations of the authority to provide additional machinery and assistance to the Directorate of Sanitation for this mega operation. Capital Development Authority Chairman Maroof Afzal gave these directions while reviewing the arrangements in this regard.

Sepaking on the occasion, Capital Development Authority member environment apprised the chairman that in order to make this operation a success, Islamabad has been divided into four zones. Zone I includes the areas of F5, F6, Blue Area and Bari Imam while zone II comprises upon Faisal Mosque, E7, F7, F8, and G8. Similarly, areas of sector F10, F11, Golra Sharif, G9, G10, G11 and G13 are included in zone III, whereas zone IV includes the areas of sector H8, H9, H10, H11, I8, I9, I10/2, I11, Highway, Model Village Humak, Shehzad Town, Rawal Town and Margalla Town.

According to the action plan, during the operation, more than 2,000 workers of Sanitation Directorate including cleaners, supervisory staff, contractors, and officers will work round the clock and leaves of entire staff of Sanitation Directorate have been cancelled.

The chairman was apprised that 30 deep ditches have been dug out at 18 different locations in entire city where offals and other wastes of sacrificial animals will be disposed of scientifically in line with hygienic standards. Besides, two emergency cell have also been established, one at Transport Section, Capital Development Authority fire Headquarters while the other one at Sanitation Directorate, Sector G6 ¼, which would be functional round the clock.

The workers would be equipped with more than 100 vehicles, tractors and trolleys, compactors, trucks, dumpers. He was further apprised that special teams have been constituted for maintaining the cleanliness on Eid, whereas staff will also be deputed to sprinkle limestone around the garbage trolleys and at sacrificial places.

Maroof Afzal requested the citizens of the capital to cooperate with Capital Development Authority and not to throw offal and other waste material of sacrificial animals in the green areas rather keep it in front of their houses so that sanitation workers could easily pick and dispose of wastes properly.

On this occasion, Member Administration and Estate Amer Ali Ahmed, Member Environment, Syed Mustafain Kazmi, Director Sanitation, officers of Sanitation Directorate and other formations were also present.
