Sir: Senior journalist and analyst Rauf Klasra recently criticised the lawmakers of Mianwali and South Punjab for not uttering a single word in the Assemblies regarding the lack of development works in their home districts. However, they were satisfied with the development undertaken by their party bosses elsewhere, particularly in Islamabad and Lahore.
No doubt, a steel mill project has been approved for Chiniot but the Kalabagh steel mill for which two German companies offered bids in 1956 and 1967, has not been approved yet. Mianwali minerals are feeding industries in other cities but no local industry has been set up to utilise these minerals. Kudos goes to late Ghulam Farooq, who established some industries during the 1950s as the Chairman Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation, but no industry was set up afterwards. It is also pathetic to note that over 800 MW of electricity is produced in Mianwali but nuclear hazards and maximum loadshedding have plagued the city. Recently, protests against loadshedding cost two lives and cases against the concerned authorities were hushed up. I request Mianwali lawmakers to highlight these issues on the Assembly floor.
