The first 100 days of any American President in office are taken as a precedent and a specimen of its policy pattern. U.S. President Donald Trump has been quite a unique person that long before his presidential campaign and subsequently being elected as the president, he has been a famous person and remained in the media limelight for considerably long time. The right-leaning rhetoric became the foundation that actually elected him in relation to a centrist woman former U.S. Secretary of State – Hillary Clinton. People may form a different opinion about Trump’s rise to power but the sexism and gender discrimination prevailing in the Western Liberal Democracy was among the chief and real reasons.
Amazingly, Trump’s First 100 Days mark the death anniversary of German Chancellor Adolf Hitler. Apart from many similarities between German-blood Trump and Hitler, the former has emerged as the most debated American President ever whose audacity is often understood as a sign of being a fool. Trump’s determination is unprecedented and one way or the other he will take back America on track. He is the only U.S. President who against all diplomatic and established norms scolded Australian Prime Minister Turnbull for not complying with the wishes of the American people. Trump also refused to shake hands with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, since in his views Germany did not complied with the needs and demands of NATO. The U.S. wishes that Germany should increase its defence spending by allocating 2% of its GDP.
Trump’s cruise missiles strike in Syria exhibits that he and his administration are open for negotiations and armed confrontations. His strike in Syria on one hand up held the American moralism whereas on the other hand it also indicated American interventionism in its foreign policy behaviour. Trump’s ‘Travel Ban’ was neither neatly crafted nor it was in accordance with the U.S. Constitution and consequently could not meet the desired objectives. The ban was pretty much reactionary and was made in a hurried manner. The ‘Border Wall’ was purely rhetorical and yielded much support from the conservative American people.
Perhaps, the American Media is rendering a bit of unjust behaviour towards Trump. It seems that they have already made up their minds against the President and do not intend to let him settle down. One thing that has surely surprised the American media is Trump’s ability to assert himself in an adamant way. It would not be wrong to say that Trump would eventually prove his sceptics wrong.
There are some problems or inherent issues with Donald Trump but his selection of U.S. Secretary of Defence Gen. Mattis, National Security Advisor Lt. Gen. McMaster, Secretary Homeland Security Gen. Kelly and U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson; clearly exhibits his motivation to bring a dynamic policy to ‘Make America Great Again’. Apart from these fine men Trump is also flanked by his son-in-law Jared Kushner; who is now a White House official. Trump removed his most trusted right hand man, his chief strategist and white nationalist – Steve Bannon from the National Security Council. This news came as a shock for the American media but Trump’s decision saved a lot of wrong input.
Trump is very much adaptive and adapts to the developing situations and is committed to deliver what he promised to the American people. The only hurdle for Trump is the American media that has been constantly and relentlessly busy in painting him as a fool. If Trump succeeds in overcoming his internal political milieu, then he would proceed in the same manner as Putin is behaving and acting.
Trump has to realize that the rapidly changing world order is in the favour of the multi polar one. While at the same time he has to re-engage in the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific. A great power’s decline or perhaps feelings of being left behind is far more painful than the demise and collapse of a weak power. While the Classical Realist school of thought of the Realist tradition dictates that ‘one man’s gain is another man’s loss’. The pursuit of power and prestige in the anarchic international system leads states and leaders to do what President Trump is actually doing. It is a reality that the unexplainable and unparalleled expensive wars in Afghanistan and Iraq apart from many military operations other than war (MOOTW) around the globe have brought America to its knees. These wars on one hand gave birth to ISIS and many powerful non-state actors while on the other hand Middle East and South Asia and especially Pakistan have suffered the most and are still paying a bitter price.
