Govt challenges Zardari’s acquittal in two references

ISLAMABAD: The government has moved Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the acquittal of former president and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari in the SGS and Cotecna references by a trial court.

The appeal was filed by NAB through its prosecutor general accountability on Wednesday against the decision of Judge Muhammad Bashir of NAB court. The petitioner prayed to the court to set aside the alleged impugned order dated November 24 whereby Asif Ali Zardari was acquitted and he may be sentenced in accordance with the law for larger interest of justice. NAB took the plea that the trial had court passed the impugned order without considering the gravity of the offence and passed the judgement in a hasty manner and that there was overwhelming evidence against the accused.
