Sir: Apropos the column “Excessive use of antibiotics” published in Daily Times on November 22, 2015. Healthcare in Pakistan entails cautious handling. Many medical practitioners recommend antibiotic and steroid therapy. The practice has had ruinous fallout .Uncountable patients who visit hospitals for minor ailments testify that they have developed immunity to many antibiotics from aminoglycoside, cephalosporin, streptomycin and tetracycline and so on. This issue needs to be highlighted at a higher level to protect people from unending vicious circle of infectious diseases. The unhampered spread of quacks is the most alarming factor. These drugs have led to an increase in cases of insomnia, depression, acne and hepatitis. Being a student of applied biosciences, I request the authorities concerned to rescue the people of Pakistan from a time when no antibiotic would be able to rehabilitate infections.
