TMUC organises Inter-College National Moot Court Competition

ISLAMABAD: The Millennium University College-TMUC law society that is an offshoot institution of the Roots Millennium Schools organised a two-day inter college Millennium National Moot Court Competition-MNMCC, says a press release.

MNMCC is an annual event that allows student and advocates honing their appellate advocacy skills before prominent members of the legal profession. For the past three years, TMUC has been enthusiastically and successfully in organising law moot competitions at national, local and intra-college level. This year MNMCC was organised at TMUC campus.

Eight teams registered for participation in the National Moot Court Competition from leading institutions that are offering law degrees in the federal capital including TMUC, The Institute of Legal Studies (TILS), The University College of Islamabad (UCI), Islamabad School of Law (ISL), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) and The International Islamic University (IIU)

The event started with the quarterfinals on the first day in which the students presented their arguments on the missing persons case before judges including Barrister Sheheryar Muhammad Khan, Zainab Samantash, Sofia Ayaz and Hassan Mehmood. The winning teams qualifying for the semi-finals were TMUC, UCI, TILS, and IIU.

Other participants presented their arguments next day before a new panel of Judges including Faraz Raza, Sharafat Ali Chaudhry and Surriya Maryam Khalil.

In the final round, the recently appointed State Minister for Human Rights Barrister Muhammad Zafarullah Khan; renowned politician and lawyer Ahmed Raza Kasuri and High Court judge Jamila Aslam after judging a thrilling competition between the students from TILS and UCI went into the finals and TILS team was declared the winners of MNMCC ’15.

The event came to end with the TMUC Dean of Academics Safia Farooqi awarding TMUC shields to the distinguished guests followed by the latter awarding shields and certificates to the winning, runner-up teams and members of the TMUC law society.

The National Moot Court Competition is an initiative of TMUC law society to provide students an exceptional opportunity to develop and practice their trial advocacy skills before distinguished members of the law fraternity.
