ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Wednesday said that several provincial departments were defaulter of electricity bills worth billions of rupees.
Replying to questions in the National Assembly, he said that his ministry had recovered bills from some departments but several institutions were still defaulters. He said that electricity connection of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Haiderabad was disconnected due to non-payment of more than Rs one billion but the said department got stay order and its connection was ultimately restored.
He admitted that some institutions were also involved in extra consumption of electricity. He informed the House that 25 to 30 small dams were being constructed in provinces. The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and provinces were executing the projects of small dams, he said.
