KARACHI: Around 329 ex-army personnel of the Sindh Police’s Special Protection Unit (SPU) have started performing security duties to safeguard the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
“The fourth batch of 329 ex-army personnel has started their security duties by joining the Sindh Police’s Special Protection Unit after completing the training,” stated a press release issued on Friday.
In a statement, Rapid Response Force (RRF) chief DIG Amin Yousufzai said that 1,020 police personnel had already been performing security duties to protect foreigners. “Now, the total number of police personnel will be increase to 2,660 after the next phase of recruitment is completed,” he said.
The SPU was set up by the Apex Committee of Sindh on the directives of the Interior Ministry to provide `seamless security` to the Chinese who are coming to Sindh for projects related to CPEC.
