KANPUR – A 42-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by gun-wielding robbers in the presence of her husband and eight-year-old daughter at her residence in Chakeri area of the Industrial City in the wee hours of Sunday.

Indian daily newspaper The Times of India reported that the five member gang tied family members’ hand and held them at gun-point while taking turn to rape the victim, the police said.

“The couple lives at a plot owned by one Mehboob Ali – who works in the Gulf. The couple was planning to leave for their Fareedpur Derapur house in Kanpur Dehat district along with their eight-year-old daughter when the incident occurred,” station house officer Rajiv Dwivedi said.

“A case under various sections, including 376 of the Indian Penal Code, has been registered. We have constituted separate teams to arrest the accused. Several suspects have been picked up for questioning. The woman has been sent to district hospital for medical test,” he added.

Gajanan Hirde commented that even if they are caught – lawyers will save them. According to reports, the five masked-men broke into victim’s house through roof between 4 and 5 am and held the family hostage at gun-point. The complainant claimed that robbers also attacked her husband with the butt of a country-made firearm when he tried to put up a resistance.

“After collecting Rs 31,000 in cash along with other valuables – including silver ornaments and a mobile phone, they gang-raped me at gun-point. The gang also threatened us of dire consequences and warned against approaching the police. They later locked the doors from outside and escaped,” she added.
