LAHORE – After successful negotiation with the Punjab government, the All Pakistan Private Schools Federation announced on Monday that 12 private schools will reopen on Tuesday (February 2).
Talking to media, Punjab Minister for Education Rana Mashood said that the 12 private school had agreed to reopen, adding that a notification will be issued in this regard.
The public and private schools were scheduled to reopen on Monday (February 1) after the Punjab government had announced their closure from Jan 26 to 31 because of what it said ‘extreme cold weather’.
However, the All Pakistan Private Schools Federation had on January 30 decided in a meeting that they would not reopen schools until Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif redressed their grievances.
“Private schools are responsible for the provision of education. They cannot be expected to, nor do they have the resources to provide the level of security that is being demanded by the government,” the body had announced on January 31.
