pakKARACHI – Despite infamous services act on Monday – restricting all labour union activity for six months specifically – Pakistan International Airline (PIA) workers are all set to go ahead with their plan to bring countrywide flight operations to standstill on Tuesday (today).
The government invoked the infamous services act, restricting all labour union activity for six months specifically aimed at restricting PIA union workers from disrupting flight operations. Speaking to a private TV channel, PIA spokesman Danyal Gilani said that the flights from Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and other cities departed as per schedule.
The PIA management claims that the schedule is not disturbed anywhere in Pakistan. On the other hand, the PIA workers started converging at Karachi airport to protest and stage a rally against ESMA and proposed privatisation of the PIA.
Reports said that water canon was called at the airport to disperse the protest. By enforcing the ESMA, the government has abolished the right of strike of PIA workers.
