PM chairs meeting on development projects for Murree

MURREE – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting at Government House Murree on Friday. The meeting reviewed the progress on various developmental projects pertaining to Murree.

The prime minister was briefed on the ongoing projects designed and focused for beautification and restoration of Murree. The projects are mostly aimed at providing facilities to the tourists coming from all over the country. These include restoration of Government House and Mall Road, creation of adequate parking facilities, improvement of hospitals and restoration of cinema in Murree.

The prime minister directed for ensuring all the essential facilities at the earliest for facilitating and attracting the tourists to visit Murree. Establishment of quality health facilities to cater for the needs of locals and visitors must be secured as early as possible, emphasised the prime minister.

The beauty of Murree, especially the Mall Road has been spoiled due to negligence and mismanagement, which needs to be restored. The prime minister approved the proposals for beautification and restoration of Mall road, resolving the issue of traffic congestion and removing the paucity of parking lots in Murree. The meeting was informed that the cinema hall has been upgraded and restored, which is set to be open for the public in the nearest future.

On the occasion, PM Nawaz directed for preparation of a comprehensive national policy on art, literature and artists. Revival of the film industry is a must and the government is willing to support films which are constructive in nature. The government will patronise art and artists by giving stipends to the deserving artists and through sponsorship of films which are educative in nature, especially for our youth, he said.

The prime minister directed for early completion of feasibility work on Bastal Mor to Pindi Point Cable Car Project, covering a distance of 4 kms, to be constructed on international standards, a single cable car taking 10 persons will reach Pindi Point Murree in 15 minutes; a distance which is covered in 45 minutes on road. The pollution free picturesque travel will be really attractive for local and foreign visitors, he said.

The prime minister also directed for clean drinking water project to mitigate the issue of water scarcity in Murree. The meeting was attended by Minister of Information Pervaiz Rashid, Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbassi, Minister for Kashmir Affairs Barjees Tahir, MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, SAPM Dr Asif Kirmani and other senior officials of the government.
