ISLAMABAD – Lt-Gen (r) Muhammad Alam Khattak was appointed as the governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday.

According to the private TV channel, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has signed a summary, approving the appointment of Khattak as the new governor. Khattak will resign from the post of Defence Secretary after his appointment as the governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He has replaced veteran PML-N leader Sardar Mehtab Abbas who resigned earlier this week citing health reasons.

The federal government spokesman clarified on Sunday that the journalist reports regarding the appointment of the new governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province were false. In a statement, the spokesman said no such decision had yet been taken in this regard.
