NAB to file one more reference against Dr Asim

ISLAMABAD: The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to file another corruption reference against former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain and his accomplices.The meeting, held on Friday with NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry in the chair, decided to file a corruption reference against Dr Asim Hussain over alleged involvement in illegal annexation of land, unfair natural gas distribution quotas and money laundering.

It also decided to authorise three inquiries. First inquiry was authorised on the complaint of Australian High Commission against Nazir Abbas of Al-Abbas International Educational over alleged involvement in defrauding 106 students by collecting approximately Rs 760 million for visa processing.

Second inquiry was authorised against Ashfaq Jumani of NHA and others. In this case, the accused were said to be allegedly involved in awarding contract M/s Siraj (Pvt) Ltd.

Third inquiry was authorised against MPA Saradar Asif Nakai, Khan Arshad Khan, Dr Muhammad Ilyas Qamar, Talib Hussain Talib, and others of Al-Madina Garden Housing Society, Pattoki, Kasur. The accused have been allegedly involved in misappropriation and criminal breach of trust in respect of amount recovered as consideration of plots and development works thereof by omitting the development works in the society and non-mutation of land in the name of purchasers.

The EBM decided to authorise investigation against Dr Asim Hussain, former SSGCL managing directors Azeem Iqbal Siddiqui, Zuhair Ahmed Siddiqui, Shoaib Warsi and others over alleged involvement In misappropriation of funds of SSGCL and OGDCL by providing illegal benefits to Jamshoro Joint Venture Ltd.

The meeting re-authorised investigation against Dr Rasool Bux Solangi, the former Deputy district officer (Revenue), Karachi, Abdul Aziz Qazi, former tapedar Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town Karachi, Abdul Majeed and Justice (r) Zahid K. Alvi.It also decided to re-authorise inquiry against officers of Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), Karachi Development Authority (KDA) and others over alleged misuse of authority and illegal conversion/allotment of land to resourceful persons.
