JHANG – A teenage girl tried to commit suicide on Saturday over non-payment of her school fee in Jhang district of Punjab province, police said.
According to the police, the victim, Sumaira, was withdrawn from a school after her parents were unable to arrange the monthly tuition fee. Her father is a patient of epilepsy, a neurological disease, which causes seizures.
The police said that Sumaira’s father refused to pay a monthly fee of Rs 20 and withdrew her from the school leaving her disheartened. The girl tried to slit her wrist and was rushed to District Headquarter Hospital, where she was given emergency medical aid.
