“RECOVERY BEGINS WITH TEACHERS”

Author: Sana Zehra

Last month Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said the nation was proud of its brilliant scientists and engineers, who were building the country’s image and bringing the latest technology to Pakistan. He was talking to a group of Pakistani students and experts here at the CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, along the Franco-Swiss border. This was the first visit of a Pakistani head of government to the top scientific research organization.

As PM Nawaz praised the engineers, technicians and scientists of the country. But do he really value the engineers of the country? The grand total of engineers in Pakistan is 170,992 (PEC Registered, June 2014) And of course, in reality this number is bigger than 170,992 owing to the fact that many engineers today do not register themselves with PEC after graduating.

However, a lot of them didn’t get the job according to their field or the job that are equal to their qualification. My question is that, why the government didn’t give opportunities to those people who have potential to bring change and to produce grossing products according to their field and become a part to elevate the economical and technical value of Pakistan across the world?

Today, when Pakistan bags uncountable awards in almost all fields of life, it is due to their conscientious nature, determination and diligent towards their field and country and it’s a matter of fact that a lot of them aren’t belongs to any political background.

Despite of appreciation and support these are Pakistani engineers and scientist who work hard to carry out their goals a shine across the world with Pakistani nationality. Moreover, the unemployment rate in Pakistan from 2014-2015 is 6.30 per cent. Now according to the Pakistan Bureau statistic it reduced up to 6.0 per cent. PM Nawaz Sharif Loan Scheme isn’t enough to start or set up a business. However, they also have to return this loan whether their business is profitable or not.

Moreover, laptop scheme didn’t gave a better impact on the education level  of Pakistan but if PM Nawaz can reduce the illiteracy rate in Pakistan by establishing quality education in the government schools and give strict instruction to the teachers to pay attention to their profession will be a commendable act for the betterment of Pakistan. These engineers, technicians, scientists are the students of those teachers who are willing give their best to their students and playing a major role in betterment of Pakistan.

The government certified teachers must be hired in government educational institutions. Pakistan needs 2,90,000 teachers till 2020. But they should have unique teaching skills and must have full command on their subject, professionalism and determination towards their profession. This certificate must be applied on existing teachers.

Couple of months before, when primary teachers were protesting to promote their service to permanent, then a TV reporter asked one of primary teacher, How do you spell the word “Primary”? Unfortunately, he was a primary school teacher and he didn’t even know the spelling of it. Insane!

Despite of distribution of Laptops, and loan schemes, the government should elevate the standard of the government school and colleges by educating the teachers first and introduce latest educational curriculum in the schools and colleges according to international standard, then we’ll become a state of highly educated people and the aim of a progressive state will be achieved.
