QUETTA – Following their traditions, people wearing traditional dresses and turbans from across Balochistan celebrated Baloch Culture Day to show how peaceful they are and that there is no discrimination among them.

Families including women and children participated in seminars and exhibitions at the Quetta Metropolitan Corporation in the provincial capital to express their interest and love for their culture and language. On the occasion, traditional caps, clothes, embroidered dresses, sandals and hangbags were also displayed in different stalls.

Addressing the event, former chief minister Sardar Akhtar Mengal said that the Baloch people have a rich culture and language and they still love their traditions and values. “This is why we want to promote our culture, language and heritage by celebrating Baloch Culture Day.”

Residents of Quetta, Dera Murad Jamali, Mastung, Khuzdar, Kalat, Kharan, Noshki, Sibi, Dalbandin, Hub, Gwadar, Turbat, Panjgur and other towns of the province participated in the event organised to mark the day. Folk singers and artistes were invited to perform in another event, held in the premises of the Pakistan Medical Association.

Despite heavy rain, a large number of people came out to participate in the shows. Mengal and his party’s leaders were dressed in traditional clothes. “I am happy to see these emotions and spirit of the Baloch people today as they celebrate their culture,” he said, adding that observing the occasion was a proof that the Baloch stood untied and owned their traditions and values. Lawyers also celebrated the day at the sessions court.
