LAHORE: A large number of seasonal beggars, especially alms-seeking families, has arrived in the provincial capital to reap large profits in the holy month of Ramazan, Daily Times has learnt.
It seems that the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) the district administration have not chalk out a strategy to deal with the influx of professional beggars coming the city in the fasting month.
Earlier, Lahore Mayor Colonel (r) Mubashir Javaid had vowed to take a stern action against professional beggars. However, still no action has been taken against them.
When contacted the Lahore mayor, his assistant refused to talk, saying that the mayor was busy in a meeting. However, a spokesperson for the mayor, Nadeemul Hassan Gillani, said that the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore had not constituted any team to deal with professional beggars.
According to reliable sources in the Social Welfare Department and Town Hall, the authorities concerned have set up a team to take action against professional beggars.
Several attempts were made to contact with Social Welfare Department Deputy Director Mubashir but he did not respond.
