Sir: Pakistan needs to be run as a country where the rule of law prevails and the constitution continues to play a dominant role in defining the exercise of powers by all institutions. When the highest court of law has given a judgment, it must be implemented; otherwise this country may end becoming a banana republic.

According to the law, Mumtaz Qadri committed a murder and was executed accordingly. He will now be judged by the Almighty. If his supporters, who are protesting on streets, think that he has committed an act of glory, then they should be convinced that he would be rewarded or punished by the Almighty.

The extremists under the garb of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, who are killing and murdering innocent human beings, have assumed unto themselves the right to kill anybody without any proof. No individual or group can assume to themselves such a right, because this would lead to total chaos and create problems for millions of Muslims and members of other faiths, who live in Pakistan. It is imperative now that every institution of the state, including executive and military establishment, must adhere to the constitution and make efforts to check the growth of private militias. We are reaping the harvest that years of abuse by those at the helm of affairs in Pakistan have sown. They exploited religion, indulged in massive corruption and failed to provide subsidised education, health and justice to the most deprived sections of our society, who became easy prey for recruitment by enemies of the state.
