KARACHI: Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Sindh on Sunday claimed to have killed a notorious gangster of Wasiullah Lakho Group, one of active gang war group of layri, in an encounter.
Police said that the gangster recently came back from Dubai after being underground for nearly two years was involved in the target killing of at least 8 people including a journalist and police personnel.
The unit of CTD Pakistan-Based Terrorists Intelligence Group (PBTIG) headed by Mazhar Mashwani conducted raid in the area of Naurus Chowrangi a locality of Site area on an intelligence information about presence of gangsters in a hideout. When police team reached the specific spot, the criminal tried to escape in the cover of exchange of gunfire but sustained bullet injuries as the police team retaliated.
SSP Omer Shahid at a press conference held in CTD Civil Lines office on Sunday told that the injured suspect was shifted to the Civil Hospital but he could not survive.
Latter, he was identified as Mohammad Suhail alias DC, who had fled away from the country after Karachi operation started in 2013 and remained underground in Dubai and had returned recently for resuming extortion activities in Ramadan.
According to Omer Shahid, when criminal record of the suspect was collected it established that he was involved in at least eight cases of target killing including a journalist and police personnel.
He killed Ali Raza , a reporter, in 2012 near Shah Waliullah Road, police constable Babar near Osman Ghani Masjid in Kharadar area. Besides he was also involved in hand grenade attack in Lyari town, he added.
“Sohail DC was a resident of Liaquatabad who first joined Muttahida Qaumi Movement in 2007 and later he left the MQM and joined Lyari gang war,” said CTD SSP Omar Shahid Hamid adding “He left the MQM over differences with the party and started working with the Uzair Baloch.”
Besides being involved in number of cases of target killing and kidnapping, he has also been involved in kidnapping-cum-killing of Lyari’s notorious gangster Arshad Pappu, his brother and a friend. “He had also played a vital role during ethnic violence in 2012 in surroundings of Lyari between Baloch and Urdu communities (MQM v/s Lyari gang war) and was also involved in beheading and mutilating bodies of several people.
