ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan on Friday threatened to lead a march on Raiwind, where the palatial residence of the ruling Sharif family is situated, if a transparent inquiry is not conducted into Panama Papers disclosures.
Imran said he would announce his plan to protest when the PTI marks its foundation day in Islamabad on April 24. He said an inquiry panel headed by Supreme Court chief judge and comprising audit experts should look into the Panama leaks. “I will go straight to Raiwind instead of D-Chowk this time around if a transparent inquiry is not ensured,” said Imran. He said the prime minister should have resigned after the leaks “as he has lost moral standing”.
Imran criticised the cabinet ministers for defending the ruling family. “The prime minister and his family have to respond to allegations themselves in a democratic country. This is not monarchy where darbaris (courtiers) are defending the ruling family,” he said. “The prime minister of Iceland was asked by his party to defend himself in the face of allegations, while British Prime Minister David Cameron is also defending himself,” he noted. He also asked the state-run PTV to arrange his address to the nation on the issue just like it did for the prime minister.
