Doctors grasp PIMS Burn Centre for private practices

ISLAMABAD: The doctors in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) have commenced to use state-of-the-art Burn Centre at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences for private practice.

A 20-bed new burn centre where most of the beds are laying vacant in spite of this poor patients not only kept on statures but they are also humiliated there.

When reporter of Daily Times visited the burn centre at the largest public sector hospital of federal capital PIMS, two patients Iran Shah and Noor Ilyas told that due to burning of lower part of their body, they were shifted to burn centre, where most of the beds are vacant but the doctors kept them on the stature.

Both the patients said wile weeping, “When we talked with Dr Ishaq Aashir for the allocation of bed, he instead of proving the facility, snubbed us harshly and we both were left on the mercy of God only”.

The burn centre was established at PIMS in 2007 since then the treatment of some 35,000 patients was carried out. But the state of affairs is deteriorating day by day in the centre.

Now after getting the permission for private practice in the PIMS building, Dr Tariq Iqbal and his assistant Dr Ishaq Aashir has grabbed the burn centre for the private practice, which was built from the public funds, due to which not only the miseries of the patients has enhanced manifold, but on the other hand the administration of the hospital is also facing great difficulties.

When Daily Times contacted the Administrator Dr Matahir Shah, he said that the matter is being investigated that why the patients are not given the beds as there is a lot of space there. Any decision would be taken after receiving the enquiry report.

Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University Vice Chancellor Dr Javed Akram said that a three-member probe team under the supervision of Dr Abid Farooqui is constituted and if any one would be found guilty in the matter of clutching the public property for private use, he would be awarded severe punishment.
