No scope of enquiry into Panama leaks: Tahirul Qadri

LAHORE: There is not any scope of enquiry into the Panama leaks as people and facilitators, who have benefited form the offshore accounts are in every department of the country.

This was stated by Pakistan Awami Tehreek Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri while addressing the meeting of the PAT lawyers wing from Canada via video link on Monday. The PAT chairman said that there is no mention of the two offshore accounts by the prime minister in the accounts details he had submitted before the Election Commission after winning the elections. The meeting also reviewed in detail the Model Town case and the witnesses’ statement recorded in the case. He said after the resignations of the prime ministers of Iceland and Ukraine, now the Kyrgyzstan PM is set to resign and if “our PM had any moral courage he too would have resigned by now”.

Dr Tahirul Qadri said that the UK-based Financial Credit Authority had sought help from 20 large financial groups to unearth the money laundering revealed by Panama leaks recently. He said all the countries whose names have appeared in the Panama leaks have opened investigations to unveil the truth, but in Pakistan the very government is using different tactics to hide the truth. He said the people of the country want to know how the Sharifs set up businesses in Saudi Arabia and from where did they get the money to set up these businesses.

The PAT chairman alleged that the supporters of Sharifs were saying that the PM has nothing to do with the businesses of his sons while on the other hands he (PM) has been taking millions of dollars from them. “There are visible proofs of corruption but elements in State Bank, Finance Ministry and the PM Secretariat are protecting the Sharifs.”

He demanded a third party audit of Orange Metro Train and Pak-China Economic Corridor projects. “The rulers are criminals and will not hesitate to take the life of any such person who becomes a stumbling block in their path,” he said, adding the PAT will never give up its quest to seek justice for the martyrs of the Model Town incident and will take account of each drop of innocent blood “spilt by the rulers”.
